About

About

  • How can we prepare the future generation to handle the global challenges?

WHY?

In +20 years today’s students at management-related university faculties and business schools will be leaders of companies, organizations and society. They will be facing great challenges in a world dominated by a growing population, climate change, lack of natural resources, increasing poverty, etc.

FOCUS

Based on the United Nations Rio-20 agenda for sustainable development and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), the PRME LEADERS+20 Competition wants to set focus on crusial questions:

  • How can we - as universities and business schools - prepare the future generation of leaders to handle these global challenges?
  • How can we - as universities and business schools -provide the future generation of leaders with the skills and perspectives needed to create a sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs?

This competition turns these questions into action!

SUSTAINABILITY?

Sustainability was already a focal point at the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. After 20 the World Summit on Sustainable Development will be held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012 (Rio+20).

The Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development will focus on two main issues: (1) a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and (2) the institutional framework for sustainable development.

The Brundtland definition of sustainability:

”Development which meets the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”

Sustainability can be understood as the end state whereas sustainable development is understood as the process of getting there.
